about
Summer - Telling one of the many stories of the Frontier Wars, Lest We Forget. This song is in memorandum of all those Thungutti people who had their lives taken and in honour of the sole survivor of the Towel Creek Massacre, Baaba (Babaang) Jack Scott, which occurred near Bellbrook NSW in 1856. This is dedicated to him and all his descendants that still call Bellbrook home and those who continue the struggle and truth telling.
lyrics
INTRO:
He pointed to the edge of the river
with a hand still shaking
“That’s where the nightmare came”
VERSE 1:
“Bunya! Bunya!” the Aunties screamed
As the jarjums begin to run
“Nhinganha! Quickly! to the tops of the trees!”
They shot’em down like leaves in autumn
CHOURS:
So I go there in the summer
the summer
To pay my respects
but there’s no headstone
and where’s our
‘Lest we forget’
I’m reminded each summer
each summer
With that flag around your neck
That it was and it always will be
VERSE 2:
After the gun shots echoed down the valley
a young rider came
Under a possum skin on a dead mother’s breast
A babe survived amongst the slain
CHOURS:
So, I go there in the summer
the summer
to pay my respects
but there’s no headstone
and where’s our
‘Lest we forget’
I’m reminded each summer
each summer
With that flag around your neck
That it was and it always will be
OUTRO:
Well I could take you there this summer
this summer
And we could pay our respects
And there’s no guilt bro, but although
you might need to jump the fence
and it’s not for me to forgive,
god knows we can’t forget
that is was and it always will be
that is was and it always will be
that is was and it always will be
